Lost Something? Report Free & Find It

Report a lost or found item on DokiFinder. We compare reports to surface possible matches, verify ownership and help arrange a safe return. Free to report.

Lost and found that works across cities, operators and languages

Most lost property never travels further than the desk it was handed in at. A phone left on a train sits with the rail operator, a wallet found in a hotel lobby sits with the hotel, and the person who lost it calls the wrong office or never calls at all. DokiFinder puts lost reports and found reports from individuals and organizations into one searchable network, compares them for you, and gives both sides a safe way to complete the return. Reporting is free, the site runs in 13 languages, and any reward an owner offers is held securely until the return is confirmed.

What to do in the first hour after losing something

Start with the places you were in the last few hours and contact them directly: the restaurant, the taxi company, the hotel reception, the station. Write down the time window and the route you took, because every lost property office will ask for it. If the item is a phone, lock it remotely and keep the tracking page open. If it is a wallet or a passport, block the cards and note the document number, but keep that number out of any public listing.

Then post a lost report on DokiFinder. It takes a photo or a short description, the category, the place and the date. From that moment your report is compared against every found report in the network, including items logged by airports, hotels, universities and transport operators that run their lost property desks on DokiFinder. You do not need to check back: when a likely match appears, you are notified.

How reporting works

You need a free account to post or to message someone; browsing and searching found items needs none. When you add a photo, AI drafts the title, colour, brand and distinguishing marks, and you correct the draft before it is published. Reports are shown under an anonymous username, so your real name and contact details are never part of a public listing.

Photos of passports, ID cards and other identity documents are treated differently. They are never sent to an AI service, sensitive fields are hidden in the public listing, and the name and country printed on a document can only be searched by signed-in users who have verified their identity.

How matching finds what you lost

DokiFinder compares the category, the place, the date, the written description, the colour and identifying details, and the photos of lost and found reports. When two reports look alike, both sides are told and can review the match before anyone gets in touch. You can also search with a picture: upload a photo of what you lost and public found items are ranked by how similar they look. The photo you search with is not stored.

Matching is assisted, not automatic. Nobody is handed an item on the strength of an algorithm. The owner shows that the item is theirs, the finder or the organization holding it decides, and the handover is confirmed in the app.

Rewards, held securely until the return is confirmed

An owner can offer a reward when posting a lost item or claiming a found one. The reward is paid up front and held securely by the platform. It is released to the finder only after both sides confirm the handover with a one-time code. If the item is never claimed, the owner is refunded. Finders pay nothing at any point. The reward is credited to the finder's wallet, and after identity verification it can be withdrawn or donated to a verified charity.

The minimum reward follows the finder's reward rule in the German Civil Code, a percentage of the item's declared value with a floor for each category, and owners can offer more than the minimum. Organizations choose their own model: many return items for free, others charge a recovery fee that is shown before payment.

Found something? How to return it safely

Post a found report with a photo, the place and the time. Leave out serial numbers, document numbers and anything only the owner would know, because those details are what the owner will be asked for when they claim the item. When a claim arrives you see the proof the claimant provides, you decide whether it is convincing, and you agree a handover in the secure chat. Meet in a public place or use the shipping option, confirm the handover with the code, and the reward is released to you.

In many countries a finder who keeps an item without reporting it is breaking the law, while a finder who reports it is entitled to a reward. DokiFinder makes the honest path the easy one.

For airports, hotels, universities and transport operators

Organizations run their lost property desks on DokiFinder with a shared workspace: staff log found items in seconds, the system compares them against lost reports from the public, owners prove ownership online, the team approves each return, and items go back by pickup or by courier with the owner paying the quoted shipping. Every action is logged, holding periods are tracked, and there is a free plan to start. Items held by organizations are private by default and surface only to the owner whose report matches.
